AIRBOX mods-400ex?

I have a 2000 400ex. I have installed a new LRD pipe, complete system and a UNI filter. I am now running it with air box lid on and no jet changes, but MY jets are ordered that are reccomended by LRD. MY problem is that LRD says I must run it with out the air box lid when I install my new jets. I am concerned about the box filling with sand at Little Sahara as well as fine red powder dirt at some places I ride. Won't this also mean that my air filter will fill with dirt so quick thay I may not be able to finish one days ride with out cleaning?

Buy a outerwear for the uni filter. Maybe you could find some fine screen to put over the airbox hole where the lid was. Put it over the hole and wrap it around the edges and wrap a large or several large zipties around the airbox horizontally. If you found tight enough screen, it would keep the majority of the sand out. I know that places like Home Depot or Menards, etc... have screen material like for porches or doors, etc....
Just an idea.
P.S. about 20 of us from Des Moines are going to Little Sahara from the 25 to the 29 of February.
I am messing with my 2000 400ex, but I think I would like to keep it stock because I hated how loud the White Bros E series was on my modified 99 Warrior. Anxious to hear a 400 with a different pipe.

I would assume that an outerwears would work for the uni since it is similar sized. It is just a nylon bag that goes around the air filter. Pantyhose would probably be perfect. It shouldn't really rip since it under the seat. Yes, we will be in LS OK. I was there last year with one other guy in the middle of March. It was dead, but it was during the week. P.S. 60mph winds there really suck. I got my face and quad sandblasted for free on the second of three days we were there. Last year, I still had my 1986 Quadsport that I got new in 1986. It was perfect, my friend had a 300ex with a White Bros slip on. Now we both have 2000 400exs. Can't wait, no more bogging in third and fourth.
Since you live around there. I come once or twice a year since it is a 1500 mile round trip. How important are paddles vs stock tires on a 400ex and is it worth it to spend $250-400 for paddles on rims for an annual trip there. I really didn't have a problem getting around on Ohtsus with the Quadsport, I just had to keep momentum and start on flat or downhill.

No spending $250-400 on paddle tires & wheels is definitely not worth it but $160-$180 is! Jim's Sand Toys 580-824-2021 @ Wanoka, OK (which is Little Sahara's town) sells Sand Sharks rear paddles on Douglas aluminum rims for the specified prices a pair. Tires are 20x11x10 or 20x11x8. 10's are a little higher, but look better. I will gain nothing from your purchase there, I tell you about it because it is handy to pick them up when you get there. bolt em on and ride. All of my ridding buddies now own them. Blaster, 250 Trail Boss, 400ex, Warrior None of us regret the purchase. They hook up quite nicely in the sand. Sand Sharks look like Sand SKAT II's can't tell the difference except in $PRICE. Front sand tires are a waste of money. Ohtsu tires on your 400 are ok, but you still will get stuck more often. I have tested them myself on my 400. You can jump just as high and such, because once you are going, you are going. I don't like getting stuck in the sand with out reverse.
