Does any one know how much power a KTM 520 puts out. I think it would be a interesting conversion if i found a wrecked bike.

The 520SX has a four speed transmission and no electric start. For the e-start, it will only add ~four pounds. You might want to consider the 520MXC or EXC with the wide ratio trans, five speed and e-start.

Pound for pound, you will not find a beter motor.

Thanks for the info guys. ...I guess i'm not the first person with that idea. I know there fast but is there a website or anything that has HP and torque #'s. I would like to see how they compare power wise with 426's, 450's and 440's so i can kind of compare.

Here ya go, I threw in a little more just for comparison:

MAKE------MODEL---WEIGHT---HORSEPOWER---TOP SPEED
KTM-------520SX---240lbs.-----54.8HP-----75mph
Yamaha----426F----248lbs.-----46.5HP-----88mph
Suzuki---DRZ400---268lbs.-----38.4HP-----80mph
Honda----XR650R---287lbs.-----49.6HP-----99mph

These weight figures are "wet" with gas and oil.
SourceirtBike Magazine/September 2000...all machines were weighed on the same scale, same dyno, and top speed runs were run the same evening at the same location using the same radar gun.

Hope this helps you out a little.

Good reply from knowsalot. One more thing worth noting is that the 520 EXC has a five speed gear box and a e-start. Top speed with this machine is well over 100 MPH.

I have never ridden one, but my neighbor has one, and that thing hauls some serious *****. I tryed my best to keep up, but could not do it, considering my ATC is faster than a stock banshee, thats verry impressive on KTM's part. I have wanted to see that motor in a quad for along time, now I see it, but no info, how stupid.

Hey Knowsalot, you forgot the CRF,it weights 233lb dry (i think, cause i don't have a mag infront of me)

Also the CRF makes 51hp and it will do 90mph,but with a 45tooth rear it does 100mph!

i know that a 2001 ktm 520exc puts out 53bhp and has 6 gears, all factory electric starts, dual exhaust heads, torque wise, its got plenty, dont ride it on the road unless you have good supermoto tires,IT WILL EAT A DIRT TIRE TO PIECES ON THE CURVES IN 5 MINUTES,if you can get a deal on it,buy it
