If you check the posts from this last week someone was on this topic. There is one in my garage my sons have built. The biggest problem they had was the exhaust system. We took it to the Little Sahara (Ok) the week they finished it. The only problem we had was the chain jumping off.
They found a roller chain tensioner there and repaired it on spot. My son is adding a stator kit right now so we can have headlights this year. It makes a heck of a conversation piece and no one has trouble telling it from a stock 250 when it is running. By the way we are running the stock radiator and have'nt had a problem. This next trip it will have a smaller front sprocket and larger paddle tires. I had a Honda 300 4x4 put my stock tires on and really had a blast on the sand. gardner10 polaris 500sp

i have looked into this conversion and alot of people said stay away because of frame cracks and the pipe cracking I am now looking in a pilot head conversion for a 250R lower i think the cr500 has 5 gears while the 250r lower has 6 and with a head like that and the counterbalancer u would not have to worry about the cracks etc..

Did your kids have to modify, strenghten the frame in anyway? To prevent cracking. Does it vibrate at high rpm's?
Did the frame crack?
If the vibration is the problem causing the frame it crack?
Could I have the engine balanced?
What type of pipe did they put on it?
I just wanted to know because i was seriously considering this as an option.
