I was just wondering what some of the advantages of adjustable timing was?? I've noticed some high performance cams have this option and I was wondering how it helped. Thanks in advance.

High performance cams need to be degreed in. This means a degree wheel is put on the crank, and it has markings that tell you the number of degrees of rotation of the cam. The cam must open the valve at a certain point in the rotation. If it is as much as 4 degrees advanced (which means the valve opens before it did stock), the intake valve can hit the piston. Depending on whether it is retarded, straight-up, or advanced, it can alter where the power comes on. All high performance cams are supplied with a spec sheet that tells exactly when the cam lobe should contact the rocker. If your sprocket is adjustable, it is easier to get this lined up.
I hope this helps.
