I bought a set of dual-rate works shocks w/reservoirs for my quadracer and have about five hours on them. Is there any way to adjust the ride height to lower the machine? Or is that only capable on the triple-rates? Even with the +2 lonestar a-arms it sits considerably higher in the front. The duracross in the rear is just fine.

On my works dual rate steelers w/o ressie the preload is adjustable, there is a ring around the shock that fits into a groove, under the spring collar.

On my Steelers, there is a collar with a clip underneath it. You adjust the shock by raising or lowering the clip, but you have to hold the spring down while you do it. It is easiest done if you have a spring removal tool ($169 form White Bros, see pg 520 in catalog #23-I think you can see this online). This isn't cheap, but you could easily make yourself one if you are half-way mechanical. Another less satisfactory way is to compress the sping, and zip tie it down. But, be carefull it doesn't slip, cause it will ruin your fingers!!

If adjusting the clip gets old, I believe it is $55 for the threaded collars.

Works will revalve your shocks within a certain period after buying them. This should include preload. I bet they would install the threaded collars and not charge any labor if you sent them back in. They are a pretty good company to work with.

This must be a Works thing. My shocks came adjusted WAY TO TIGHT, and I was topping out even on the little bumps. I think I raised the clip 2 notches. I have them dialed in now, and love them!!

I have raised the clip on all my Works shocks (3 pairs). It might be just bad calibration info though. If no one ever gives feedback that the calibration was wrong, it won't change. Since I can change pre load myself, I have never told Works there was too much. I would imagine that is the case with everybody else.

What do you mean YZGUY when you say "topping out"?? I purchased some tripple rate Works shocks and when you pick the front of the bike up they make a clunking sound as if they ran out of travel. I don't remember my stock shocks making that sound. Is that what you are calling topping out or i the sound that mine is making fine??

The clunking sound you here is fine all works shocks do that...and for the preload the shocks should come setup for your riding style,,,I bolted mine on and have never taken them off or had problems with the way the work or perform..
