motor oil in the surge box
#1
I have a mojave and went for a ride today, the motor started fine but I noticed when I hit the top of each gear the engine would "bounce". I dismissed this as not being warmed up enough. Later in the ride I heard a faint tapping. I took the quad home and while idling looked around the engine. I found oil draining out of the tube from the surge box. I looked at the oil level in the sight glass and there was none showing. I removed the fill plug, while running, and the pressure almost blew the plug out of my hand. I then shut the motor down and checked the oil level and it was low but there. It took 1/3 of a quart to bring it back to normal.I'm pretty sure the pressure is from bad rings but how is the oil ending up in the surge box? Why did this show up so suddenly? The quad is an 89 with ,I think, the original piston. If I have to replace the piston and rings What overbore should I get. Reliability is a high priority. If I have to do all this would it be wise to replace the cams at the same time? Thanks in advance for your help.
