Web cams - are they worth it?
#1
I've got my engine apart and am going 1.0mm overbore. Would it be beneficial to replace the cams while it's apart? Has anyone used them on a four stroke? If so, were there any performance gains? I am considering Web cams. Are these cams good quality? Thanks for your input.

I'm not sure about web cams...Never tried one.
But a cam can be a good idea, depending on what you are looking for as far as gains with the engine.... A friend of mine has an aftermarket cam in his warrior....It did make a huge difference....The machine was more crisp on the throttle and revved much higher into the rpms...But the cdi box also had to be modified to achive this. So I don't think it was the cam alone that made the difference.....Stiffer valve springs, advanced timing, different lift and duration, lighter piston, pipes/jets...any mod always depends on wether or not it will work with existing mods.... I've seen too many people take their nice new quad and actually ruin it with bolt ons.
But to answer your question...Yes a cam will make more of a noticable difference than the boring will.
good luck.

I put a White Bros. cam in my Mojave along with porting, polish, 11.5:1 Wiseco piston, custom hand made pipe and a KLR250 black box. This made a HUGE difference in the power of the bike! I highly recomend putting a cam in yours. It's worth every penny!

Thanks for the post. What ,if any, overbore do you have? What does the KLR 250 black box do for the performance and whats the cost? Did you have to change your jetting? How much did the cams cost, Web wants 150.00 and they need my cams. I'm running the biggest jet that comes with the dynojet kit now and I dont have a pipe yet. Its on its way from rocky mountain now. Thanks for the input.

I am 1/2mm bore over stock. If you put cams in your Mojave, you need to put on the KLR250 blackcox. It raises the rev-limiter and changes the power curve. If you don't put it on you won't notice as big of difference because you can't rev the motor as much. With the porting you need to lean it out. I am two sizes under the stock size. The White Bros. cams are $230.00 with no cam core charge because they are made out of billet stock. The black box is another $250.

I am considering one in my 400ex. I saw a 400 with one in it and a different carb and it was very impressive. if your going to do it, I would look at others first such as the dunes.

there are only 2 cam manufactures for atv cams and web cams is one of them. so if you want to line someone elses pockets go ahead. white bros. makes a very nice profit packaging other peoples products and reselling them.
