Foam filter vs K&N filter in DUSTY conditions
#1
I would like to get some advice from people who have used both these types of filters. Is a K&N filter any good for a two stroke engine in DUSTY dirty conditions or is the foam filter type best for this condition? I heard that the K&N's are good for 4 cycles(more tolorant of dusty air) and 2-strokes under dune/desert conditions(low dust).
Anybody ever take apart an engine that was run with a K&N or foam air filter and see any internal dirt?
Anybody ever loose an engine from dirt getting inside due to one of these filters?
Thanks,
Rob

k&n for sand and foam for dust. was on the phone with Allen Knowles from ct racing today and he told me that a k&n will pass the smallest particles in dusty conditions. I currently run a k&n on my 400ex and have noticed that if you run a white rag through the boot between the airbox and the carb you will find dust. The reason I was asking him about filters was to get his recommendation for which one to run with his pipe. He recommends a k&n for the sand and races like the baja because a foam fister in a long race like this will plug and then everything passes through
