I recently aquired a 1975 kawasaki ke175 and when i went to start it it fired up on the second kick but soon started revving really high regardless of where the throttle was at. Does anyone know what could be wrong. i know this is an atv forum but i didn't know where else to ask

An increase in rpms at idle is often a serious air leak somewhere. Check the boots for leaks or loose clamps.A cracked rubber boot can leak even tho it's not necessarily visible. If any cracks are visible, try spraying the boot with WD 40 while the engine is idling. If the rpms drop, you've found your leak.
