I would like some opinions on front "A" arms for my 2002 Cannondale Canninbal. I will be doing some mx racing. Suggestions on brands and types. Such as width and pros and cons on extended travel "A" arms.

You don't want your a-arms to be to wide or you will lose manuverability. Also I wouldn't buy lone star a-arms, My friend bought a pair for his 250r and cracked a weld on the shock mount on the lower a-arm during the 1st mx race he used them.

LoneStar is a very reputable company. Did your friend call them back and explain what happened? If so what did they do to remedy the situation? Just because something happened to a friend of yours doesnt mean it will happen to everyone. Just a little food for though.

I have Lonestar A-arms on my 400ex and I have had no structural problems. I have had to replace bushings and heim joints but after 3 years I wouldn't expect them to be as tight as they were new.

Does anyone have anything to comment about fabricating my own longer A-Arms. Aftermarket A-arms are expenisve and im looking for a cheaper way out, and i dont have a problem doing some fabrication. I am taking on a project quad and i was thinking on doing sum cut and weld. It might be kinda nutty to be cutting and welding on the A-Arms, but im looking for some input. I was going to try to find some chromoly steel the same thickness and diameter as the stuff that the stockers are made of and weld it in, and then maybe weld some bigger diameter tubing over the new section of tubing extending past the new welds. Bad Idea? Or will it be weak? The A-Arms are not somthing i want comming apart or breaking on me? Would i be better off just making my own A-Arms using the pivot bushing end and ball joint end off the stockers.

If you have the talent to fabricate your own arms, then try them out, test them. If your THAT good with welding and bending, jump in the market. Theres too much money waiting for you.

About five years ago I made billet aluminum a-arms for my LT 500. They stood up pretty well. I've raced hair scrambles a few times. You can imagine how well an LT fits thru woods. Anyway, if you think you can build them then do it. How do you think the aftermarket guys got started? Just be careful testing! I have pics of mine if interested. Just ask. prototypeaerospace@wi.rr.com

just saw your forum. even though you posted this a while back, i have some info for you on a-arms. i live in ks, but i have a friend who works at a machine shop in ok. and is a really good welder who started making a-arms a few years ago just on the side. he' made a set for his banshee, my banshee, a few mojaves, warriors, and a couple others. he also made a swingarm and his own shocks. if you like some more info here's his email.
