Default Banshee with Rz or Rd engine?

Well, my local dealer has a Banshee for sale. He says it has an RD 350 engine in it. But when I search for information
on the web I find that the RD is air-cooled and doesn't have power-valves. This bike does.
So was the dealer mistaking, and is it actually an RZ350 engine? (liquid, powervalves)

He also said he disabled the power-valves because all they did was make a terrible noise.....

an RZ has powervalves and is liquid cooled... if they disabled the valves because all they did was make noise.... DON"T BUY IT!!! What else did they screw up?
Powervalves make a huge diff. on that engine (A banshee with low end power)

Sounds like the local village idiot got their hands on that one!

Well, sounded kind of strange to me to disable the valves also...I'll ask him if he can re-enable them....

It's just that the entire quad is in very good shape. It has been powdercoated, has new bearings, sprockets, plastic, hell it looks like a new quad!
On top of that it's also highway-approved. (yes, I live in Belgium where it's possible for <1995 Banshees to be street-legal)
So that would be a screamer, especially with the RZ engine, if fully functional.

What else should I look for to see if there isn't anything wrong with the engine/wiring/components ?

Make sure it has an RZ ignition so the powervalves will work. It might only have RZ cylinders with banshee bottom end, and ignition.

I would stay away from that one .

I remember the *craze * when folks did that , it rarely did what folks thought it was going to .

If it truely is a RZ engine , the gearing won't be correct .

Before you go any further look at the top case half , is it threaded and ready to go for a tach cable ? If so it may well be a real RZ , which is not what you want .

I could list other issues as well , but , I think you get the idea .

I don't mean to discourage you , just save you from a headache .

Rick

PS --> Canada had the RD350LC before the USA had the RZ350 . The RD350LC is a very similar machine to an RZ350 , the major changes are things to appease our EPA by reducing emissions .

I had a friend that did a conversion on his Banshee . He went up to Canada and purchased a used RZ350 motor , It was a real nighmare to get it to work like he wanted it to, seems to me the powervalves were electronic and operated by the battery, I know he had a bunch of wiring to do on it, to get the powervalves to work and had to install a battery. Hope this helps
