425 xpedition

have a 425 xpedition. stopped firing. i replaced stator ,cdi,and rectifer,now have s park when i try to first start then spark ouits.could i have a bad coil.any info would be helpful. thanks larry:

Welcome to the forum! Pull the plug cap and check the bare wire against the engine to see if you have a good spark,if not check the wire itself for bare/pinched spots and with an ohm meter check that the cap shows at or about 5k ohms. Resistor caps can go out. Plus check all the ground wires(brown) that tie into the coil mounting bolt make sure every things tight. Most cycle shops have coil checkers and will show if coil is the problem or something else. Also make sure the pulser coil and flywheel are clean,plus pulser coil can be moved in closer to the flywheel slightly by loosening bracket screws and "slightly" tapping bracket and tighten screws.One last thing is to disconnect the black kill wire from the cdi and check spark. If spark is good then there could be a short in the left control switch. Hope this helps you get started.. OPT
