scrambler 500 no spark!! help

Off position on switch: Black and Brown wire should be together
On position on switch: Red/Black and Red wire should be together
If this doesn't work you're going to have to dig deeper. You should have the ignition switch connector to add a key switch unless someone cut the wiring connector off! This was usually on stolen machines that I've found when this happened.

red and black and red wire from where?? just splice them together? Ive replaced mostly everything already the only thing i havent replaced is the cdi. im getting frustrated and thinking about parting out the machine but i know that once i get spark i can get it running. just getting spark is the hard part.

Looks like you have a mess! From what I can tell you have a TWO prong toggle switch. You'd have to splice the Black and Brown wires together and plug into one prong, then tie the Red/Black(red with a black stripe) and Red together and plug into the other prong of the switch. Unless someone has been splicing in different color wires! OPT

wow, everything is color coded except for the white wire and the black wire that this guy hooked up the kill switch with. if its easier ill remove the entire kill switch and leave it in the on position thats fine with me too

ok so im going to tie in a brown wire with the black wire that is connected to the switch then connect that to a brown spot on the circuit board?
and also tie the red w black stripe and red together and connect that to the other prong on the switch?

All I can tell you is by what the wiring schematic wires and colors that shows for this model. What the previous owner has done, especially splicing in a White wire
and the rest of what the harness looks like, you really need to get a manual on this and start tracing his screw ups! The only other alternative is to buy a $200 wiring harness and start fresh! I've had some like this brought into the shop and refused to work on them without a new harness and correct parts. Look on the "sticky" section above the regular thread section on "manuals" and see if you can down load a pdf on the wiring schematic for your model. Even if it's a 97 Sportsman manual, the color codes(especially on the switch, stator, cdi, coil connections, etc) will be the same on most of the components OPT
