An ecu can be defective, but don't buy one as you have to have it programmed to your machine by Digital Wrench! It's a catch 22 situation. If you did have it hooked a up at the dealer, then if it was an ecu problem the program should have caught it. As far as dealer ratings, this would just be a local thing, word of mouth, etc unless they are in the BB community, then they only "police" their own and not really that well. Probably wouldn't do any good to call Polaris either.

have you checked the exhaust from the header back to tail? i have had that happen to me once. i have had dirt mud collect in the low spots of the pipes it might be enough to cause back pressure.

I did not think of that, I will let the dealer know. It has been at the Polaris dealer for the past 2 months. They can't figure it out either.

just was wondering if the dealer looked at the exhaust yet and if it is working? also have them check the intake manifold gasket or boots could be cracked and letting in to much air. after the tbh to the head.

An update, after 6 months I just got my 4 wheeler back, and neither the dealer or corporate Polaris were able to fix it, they just gave up. I am no closer to figuring out what is wrong with it than when I started. The guy at the dealer actually told me to cut my loss and part it out. I am astounded that Polaris made a product that they are unable to fix, mean while I am paying the bill for a unit I cannot use. What does someone do in this situation?

Yes the gaskets and boots have been replaced. No still not working properly. I did request they check the exhaust, I will review the packet with the list of things they did and communication sessions with Polaris. It is 10 pages long. I will also look at it myself.

One last thing and I give up! Did you replace the map sensor harness kit with the one from OTB? Sensors are not usually a problem, but the thin wiring is. Even the manual says 90% of efi problems is wiring issues not sensor related. This was the most common cause on idling problems on the 500 efi. The wires can actually show continuity, but can still get hot and short along with wires pulling out of the cheap connector ends also. That and crank sensor harness shorts were the most problems we had on the 500 efi machines. Plus if the dealer said it was mechanical, did they even check compression, look at other areas, etc?

Have not replaced with the kit, but the whole harness is new. Everything from leak down to cam inspection was completed on the motor, the dealer also believes it to be electrical they just don't know what. Computer was replaced and reflashed several times. They inspected the harness including replacing the diode pack, Polaris corporate did a computerized test on all the sensors and harness. I will check the harness wire by wire. Has to be something small and stupid at this point. Just sucks that it is a nice ATV and I am paying for all this. I don't blame you for giving up, everyone else is. It is just weird that Polaris corporate cannot repair their own unit.
