2001 polaris 500 magnum
#1
I have a 2001 polaris 500 magnum it runs fine how ever starting is an issue!! It will not start just turns over and over we checked everything, replaced battery took starter apart cleaned it put new carb on it! The only way it will start is if we hook a battery charger up and put it on jump mode!!!! Any thoughts????

Seems like getting to be a common problem.I'd pull the recoil cover and clean the pickup(pulser) coil and any dirt/corrosion on the flywheel. Some would recoil start and not electric start. You might check this post out on a Sportsman that had similar problems. http://forums.atvconnection.com/pola...ml#post3155476
If this doesn't help you can ohm the white and white red pulse coil leads. Should show around 97 ohms.

Yes we did all that before replacing the others! How ever we have not since we replaced the bad switch! So it looks as if we will be going back into that area tomorrow!!! It would suck if that would be out know since that is like 400 to replace.....I was so excited when it tested fine the first time and the only thing that didn't test good at that point was the headlight/kill switch had a short....

Check resistance out on either(which ever colors you have) the black/red to green OR black/red to Red wires coming from the stator leading to the cdi.Should show around 446 ohms + or - 20%. The pickup (pulser) can show to be good, but the main stator windings could be bad.
