Default 06 Predator 500 LE

My 05 predator is not getting fuel. I know this because I replaced the battery and started it for the firt time since i have owned it (6 months). The previous owner said it sat for 1 to 1-1/2 years.

It started up on the first crank with ease but i had sprayed a little bit of starting fluid before cranking. I noticed after a few trys it will only run if i spray starting fluid then quickly dies. This leads me to believe that it is not getting fuel.

So I looked around and while there are some loose "vacuum" lines, or whatever those lines may be that are connected to the carb. Maybe a vent line at the bottom? its about an 1/8" clear goldish line. And similar looking lines at the top of the carb on both sides but about 3/8 in diameter. One vents out to the bottom, one goes into the frame under the begining of the gas tank.

I then pulled the fuel line, turned the power on with the key and then cranked the engine. Fuel comes out, but VERY slowly while cranking. What type of pressure should I be seeing?

Think you need to start out with a carb kit. Sitting too long just gums up the fuel in the carb and jets. Plus needle and seats can stick not allowing fuel into the carb or too much fuel and out the over flow tube at the bottom. Carb Rebuild Kit Polaris Predator 500 03 04 05 06 07 | eBay

I was planning to pull the carb off and go through it anyway as well as drain and clean the tank. But my concern is still the lack off fuel coming out of the fuel feed line. How much fuel normally feeds into the carb? There was literally no pressure at all. Looked like less than gravity fed to me...

Is there a fuel filter in between the tank and the carb on the feed line that could be clogged from the old gas??

Fuel is pumped by vacuum to the carb by way of a fuel pump. It will only flow so much according to the vacuum applied. When you crank the engine over fuel should pulse of fuel from the fuel line. Flow depends on the pump,if trash/dirt is in it flow can be reduced,if the valves aren't kept adjusted, this too can affect fuel flow because you can lose compression, therefore vacuum. This is why I gave you a link to a service manual as their are several things involved in the Predator.Along with sitting almost two years you need to check the valves, change the oil and filter, very likely install a carb kit,and possibly clean/rebuild the fuel pump if need be. Ethanol in the fuel can do a lot of damage over time.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse
