Default ?Using a Tube in a Polaris Tire. Advisable?

Hello All,

Can you use a tube in a Polaris tubeless Tire?

My son put a 1/2 inch slice in the rear tire. a new tire is $125.00. I would like to try to patch the slice from the inside and then use a tire tube to hold the air.
Is this advisable? Tube will cost $25.00. I thought it was worth a try.

The Tire is a Polaris PXT AT26 x 11 R12

Any help would be greatly appreciated

PS. the dealers said the tube would spin inside and cause friction. I don't understand how it would spin....??? I felt he was just trying to sell me a new tire

Had plenty of people do this that were a little short on cash for a new tire, especially if the split was on a side wall and too hard or wouldn't hold a patch. May or may not hold up,but I guess you realize that.Plus I'm sure others will give you their experiences with this.

the slice IS in the sidewall. I can purchase a new one. Cash is very good now. Thank God. But I was just curious if patching it and using a tube would be a good fix. or is it not worth the effort?

Also, could you comment on the "tube spinning inside" which the dealer said would happen. I find this comment hard to believe

Any things possible as it really takes good pressure to keep the tire bead seated and can take a lot of stress on a tube just to seat the bead. Yes it's possible to have the tire spin around also and put pressure on the tube, pulling a valve stem out.Have seen patch jobs like this do it. Same reason that they have rim locks on dirt bike wheels,to keep this very thing from happening,BUT at low speeds shouldn't be a great concern on an atv tire.Again I would consider this an emergency type repair and not a tire to depend on. Plus the dealer wanted to sell you a tire I bet..That's why he's in business.

not to steal this thread but back this winter I gouged a sidewall on the corner of a landscape block while plowing and was able to plug it with 2 plugs and has held up so far but I always kinda worry about it when out for a ride. It very well may hold for years but I was considering replacing the plugs with a plug/patch is installed from the inside. I'm sure OPT knows what I'm talking about. We use them on heavy tires and are far superior to a simple plug or patch alone. My question is would this be better for a sidewall? I've read some info on patches not working well because of side wall flex. Any thoughts?

On a sidewall split we couldn't use them because of shop liabilities, but we used them for most all repairs including motorcycle tires without any worry. Best patch you can find.Came in different sizes from our supplier. http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-8-stem-Patch-Plug-Combination-Radial-Tire-Repairs-WRAPPED-STEM-/121303592657?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c3e41eed1&vxp=mtr

I tried the tube in tire. Problem was the tire spun on the rim and took the tube for a ride with it and sheared off the tube's valve stem.
A problem a valve stem on a stand alone tire can not have.

Can't remember squat as to whether we got them through Tucker Rocky or Parts Unlimited, our two main shop suppliers(dealer sales only) but could be the same mfg as the ones listed on ebay.Plus check a local auto store or even places like this.http://www.grainger.com/product/CAME...LC5?s_pp=false
Plus here's a better quality video. We normally didn't need the sealer over the patch as the glue we used was pretty stout and held good.Spray brake cleaner or acetone can clean the tire just as good as the specialty junk. Just buff the tire good to get a good grip.
