I have an 08 Sportsman 800 HO and my radiator fan doesn't run when it should. Naturally this causes the engine to overheat unless I am riding. What can cause the fan not to run? Sometimes it will run but not consistently. It is possible that there is a wire somewhere that has been chewed by field mice. The ATV stays at the camp and I have already found one wire chewed.

Look up the harness from the fan relay and should be a 20 amp circuit breaker either taped to the harness or in a sealed pouch(found em both ways) The breaker provides voltage to the fan relay. They can corrode and can cause the fan not to work or the fan can work intermittently.Seems I had several that had this problem. You can get this breaker at any auto supply if it's the problem. Item#12. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse If the breaker turns out to be ok,then I'd check the fuse block and wiring next since it's an intermittent problem. Plus you can jump 12 volts to the fan itself to eliminate it as the problem. Plus I hate mice also as they can cause all sorts of problems..
