2000 425 Starter noise
While starting it seems like the starter is hanging up a bit. Makes kind of a whining sound for a second after I release the start button. Doesn't sound healthy and wonder what it could be. Someone mentioned bendix but I really don't know. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Bendix spring probably getting worn and not allowing it to back away from the flywheel quick enough. The starters and bendix are too cheap to mess with. Just throw it away and install a new one. Plenty of cheap ones are on ebay. The trick to keeping one from doing this is to "blip" the throttle as soon as it cranks. This creates a little more torque and kicks the bendix back quicker from the flywheel."New" Polaris Starter Bendix Clutch Magnum 325 330 425 500 2x4 4x4 6x6 3085394 | eBay Or if you have doubts about the starter also you can get the complete package here.DB Electrical - Magnum
