I believe its a 93 trail boss 330,battery is good, power coming thru fusible link near the solenoid up to the ECM,when you turn the key on the headlights (with the switch on) will light up and go out instantly, turn key off and back on same thing, machine will not start, has no indicator lights working,it has the "Sure power" ECM if it matters. Thanks for any help

I guess you mean a 2003 Trail Boss 330. 330 was an oddball as it did have an updated ecm,but not silver colored and not sure it's US made. Still sounds like an ecm problem. I've had to replace multiple ecms on the same machines,so having a replacement go out(if you've already replaced one) isn't unusual.Item #18. Yes,03' and thank you for the quick reply,i've never replaced the ECM,just fixing for someone else and have yet to come across an issue like this. Was also wondering about the fusible link, have 12+v on both sides but is it possible to "lose" power under load if it's weak or will it just blow altogether? Again,Thanks

Fusible link will usually just blow.If you have 12 volts on each side it's still good and transmitting power. It's not like the old thermal circuit breakers that could trip and reset. Ecm failures were common on these machines, more so on the 2004/2005 Sportsman 500s and 700s. The 330 ecms imo should have been on the original ecm recall also, but unfortunately weren't. I was told it was early 2000's but i believe it's later, ecm shows a part# of 4011831 which would put it at late 2000's no? how do you read the VIN #?

Look on the right side(facing the front) on the lower frame behind the a-arm. Has a 17 digit vin#. 10th digit is the year model.Plus if you still have the sticker(engine serial number) on the recoil starter, the first two digits is the year model.

Update-
New OEM ecm and still same problem, took kill switch apart to clean and the contacts and spring and ball(assuming 1 ball) fell out,now to figure that damn thing out? all the schematics i'm seeing just show the whole switch assembly.

Once you take the kill switch apart you can't hardly ever get it back right again with the ball bearing and the small brass plates flying out. No schematic or repair guides for these. Along with ecms, yes left control switches can short out,get dirt/moisture in the contacts and shut off power to the dash also.. Forgot to mention that also.If you can't get it back together right, best to just get another one. Plus depending on build date, this 330 (if it is a 2003 model) has two different control switches. That where the 17 digit vin# will help if you can get enough info. You can call a local dealer if not sure and they can pull up the build date. New kill switch, same problem,if lights are in "on" position when you turn the ignition on they will flash once or twice quickly then cut out.
