First thing I'd consider is a fuel pressure test. Must hold 39psi without any major drop in pressure or the pump could be going out.. All depends if you want to rebuild the pump assembly in the tank. Many have done like you and spliced into the pump wires and mounted one externally. Before efi came out with the pumps enclosed,the Rangers had the fuel pump mounted along the lower seat frame. Easy to get to and replace.Imo that's where all fuel pumps should be on the newer efi Rangers and Rzrs. Should have never been in the tank.
