transmission fluid amount 2011 sportsman 550
#1
Hello. I changed my transmission fluid today. The shop manual gave me two amounts. 946ml and 1100ml (32oz or 37oz). The amount was based on whether it was built before or after a certain date.
I had intended to just fill until it came out of the fill hole...but it never did. In the end, I put in the 32oz and then added another 2 or 3 oz to split the difference in the amounts. It never did leak out even with he extra.
If my transmission was supposed to be the lower amount, will the extra fluid cause any issues? 35oz instead of 32oz?

Wouldn't sweat it. I always filled them until fluid trickled out the fill hole no matter what the manual says. Even if you have a tad to much fluid the excess would eventually make its way out the vent tube. The only one I made sure of on the amount was the old rear diff on the Sportsman 700/800s. The gear case isn't going to be damaged or explode from any pressure build up. Plus manuals as much as you may want to believe what they say are not always right. Same thing on the older Sportsman 500s. Manual called for 32 ounces but the actual amount to the dipstick fill line was around 20 ounces on refill. The manual didn't say that 32 ounces was the amount the factory used in a completely dry gear case.
