2011 sportsman 550 trouble starting in cold
#1
howdy...anybody else have issues starting their atv in the cold. Mine has troubles starting when the temp hit -25C (which is about -14F). I have it on a battery tender and when I turn the key it clicks once and then the engine light is on. If I put a heater on the engine, it starts fine. Once it has been running, it starts fine.
Is this a battery issue issue or something else?
thanks,
Tim

Typically the batteries used in ATV's are a bit marginal. Here is a suggestion, Arctic Cat has a heater that goes into the radiator hose, primarily for the 700 SD Diesel model. I just ordered one, as I'm getting a diesel AC. At least that will put the heat where you need it. So if upgrading the battery, doesn't quite do the trick, do a search on eBay for that Arctic Cat heater. I think I paid around $42. Polaris might have similar, as they have a diesel Ranger.

Man at those temps I wouldn't want to start either.Had a friend years ago that came from Detroit. His car didn't have ac,but did have a plug hanging out for his dipstick oil heater. Don't know if that would help or if it's a combination of cold thick oil and cold fuel. We complain down here when it gets down to 30 degrees Farenheit.
