2006 Polaris Sportsman 500 EFI, just replaced the fuel pump, reassembled and it started and ran perfectly. Went to ride it around the block and it ran about 1/4 mile and stopped. I cannot get it started again. It has gas and the fuel pump primes as it should but will not start. Pulled air filter and shot in starter fluid, it runs for starts for just a second then dies. Any ideas on what may be wrong??!!

 

If it runs on starting fluid sounds like it's not getting gas. Even though it's a new pump,start at the beginning and check that fuel pressure is holding 39 psi. Even though it may prime up you could have a faulty one or it could be somewhere else such as an electrical problem.Get this cheap 5 buck manual and go through the fuel systems checks and tests along with electrical tests if need.2006 Polaris Sportsman 500 EFI Service Manual PDF Download
