Thanks for the add, just got a 2006 sportsman 500efi and while riding the gauge cluster went completely out but quad still ran fine, now does it randomly but it's been a few days now since it has done it. Has anyone had this problem?

 

Pull the speedo connector and use a little electrical grease.If the speedo continues to black out it could be a problem with the pdm module.This module has all the circuit breakers and controls power to the dash, starter,fan,etc. This model was prone to have pdm problems I really believe because of where it was mounted. Right at the front. Item#11 on the parts break down.If it continues doing this,the manual does have a few tests on this module that you may be able to narrow it down to either the pdm or the speedo itself.2006 Polaris Sportsman 500 EFI Service Manual PDF Download

 

Thank you for your reply, I'll have to try it. Going to strip all plastics so I can clean it good looks like it went mudding awhile ago and was never properly cleaned.
