Default Polaris Magnum 2000 - Help getting it started

Hi all

Hope someone can help be diagnose the problem, the bike cranks but doesn't start.
I changed the spark plug and got it to start, but I felt like the throttle wasn't being responsive a couple of times and had a couple of back-fires.
Worked a couple of hours and then I wouldn't start again..

Could be a fuel problem? Was planning on changing the fuel filter next.

If you have spark, pull the fuel line from the carb. Crank the engine over. Should be a steady stream of fuel from the pump. If not, then the pump could be faulty. Cheap part available on amazon or ebay. If it has fuel and spark, check the valve clearance and also for any damage or ground down exhaust cam lobe that could be causing problems. Also try cranking with the recoil starter. If it cranks, possibly the pick up coil is too far out from the flywheel and can't spin over fast enough to crank using the electric starter. Any more than that and the etc contacts can touch and cause starting problems, back firing, etc.
