Default Brakes

Hi opt, I have an 98 sportsman 500 and the only way I have brakes is if I put a pair of vice grips on the top brake hose that goes to the bake Caliper. Wasn't sure what needs to be replaced.

thanks

Either still have trapped air in the lines or the master cylinder piston seals are worn, sucking air. Clamping/restricting the hose can help build up pressure in the master cylinder but don't trust something like this. If you're sure the lines are clear, mity vac works the best at this, the oem piston/seal repair kit($81) costs way more than getting an after market master cylinder.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Left-Brake-M...pZQ28n&vxp=mtr

I replaced the master cylinder with the one you posted in the last comment and I have fluid coming from every caliper. I bled the lines just like I have done in a million vehicles and I have no pressure. I went through a whole jug of Blake fluid. Could the rear caliper be bad? The foot pedal works great! Just can't get the hand brake to work.

Did you prime the new master cylinder first? On the rear caliper there are two small o-rings than can seep or suck air. Caliper has to be split to replace them. Kit comes with new piston seals and the two o-rings. POLARIS SPORTSMAN 335 400 500 REAR BRAKE CALIPER SEAL REPAIR REBUILD KIT OS148A | eBay

I hooked the master cylinder all up then last night I started pulling the trigger and found that air was coming back up through the brake fluid. So yes I think it is primed but I also had the hose hooked up as I was doing this. If i open one of the bleeders and squeeze the lever fast fluid will spray 3 feet out of the bleeder,.it will do this on all 3 bleeders. Should I crimp that hose off to the rear caliper and see if I get my brakes back at the front calipers? I would think that would tell me if the issue is the rear caliper or not? Idk thou, what do you think?

Gotta be careful when you use vice grips on the rubber lines, but I've done it my self before. Try it at the master cylinder line to see if it primes up ok,then try the rear caliper line.If it holds pressure then it's probably leaking at those two small o-rings.

Pressurized great at the master cylinder but can not get it to pressurize by crimping at the rear or front calipers. I even crimped all 3 lines at each caliper and still can't get it to pressurized.

Are you using a mity vac or just trying to manually bleed?
