Default 2013 Polaris Sportsman 500 -rusted exhaust

Hi, I am in the middle of refurbishing a rusty exhaust pipe and am wondering if there is any way to clean up some of the black suite on the inside of the exhaust before a finish sanding and spray paint the entire exhaust pipe-outside? Is there any other suggestions that people can make in refurbishing the engine to a higher standard? (I just got it out of the shop with a full service, new clutch and weld to a cracked engine housing which cost over $3000, so I do not have a lot of extra money to dump into expensive upgrade parts.). Thanks for any replies, Jon
It's a 2013 Polaris Sportsman 500 High Output with about 4000 miles on it.

Don't know if rust remover would help, but kerosene or naphtha would clean up the muffler from a lot of carbon build up. They still show to have the clean out plug same as the older ones have.Clutch kits are still the cheapest way to get a little more umph from an engine. You may lose a little top end but most people aren't concerned about it.https://www.highlifter.com/prodcat/h...clutchkits.asp https://www.speedwerxstore.com/index...duct_list&c=83

Thanks for the info. I will buy some kerosene and soak the pipe in it and brush off the build up. Cheers
