Default Black CDI wire disconnected, battery won't charge

Hi, I have a 2001 polaris magnum 500. Black wire from CDI is disconnected and a push button kill switch was put in to connect the wire and therefore kill the engine. Problem is now the battery won't charge. Does the disconnected black wire affect the atv's ability to charge?
Thank you

No,the black wire just affects the kill circuit. If it's not charging 14-14.5 volts back to the battery, usually the regulator is the problem. You can generally rule out a stator as a problem by checking resistance readings between the yellow wires from the stator leading to the regulator. Should be some small resistance(0.13 ohms or so) between each other and no yellow should short to ground. Make sure the regulator wires are hooked up as some models were prone to having wire connections pulled apart.
