Default 2008 polaris sportsman 800 twin efi awd issue

So I've had a few sportsman before but this 800 efi is new to me and the awd has me stumped. It works but only when the throttle is mashed and I'm moving at a good clip. It has an aftermarket clutch kit and 1 inch spacers. Every other sportsman I've had the awd would engage instantly even at a crawl. HELP!!

Most clutch kits use stiffer springs, heavier counter weights. This takes more throttle to activate. Several people that I've installed kits for didn't like them and had me change the clutches back to stock after riding them awhile. You can get oem springs and weights(if they were changed) fairly reasonable at Partzilla and other online sites.

So because of the aftermarket clutch it's causing my AWD to engage at a higher rpm?

Yes clutch engagement is usually at a higher rpm because of the stiffer springs and clutch engagement is more harsh compared to stock.

Clutch kit or may not have anything to do with your awd engagement. Change fluid first if you haven't done so already and see if it helps. Most common problem or the weak point on later model awd systems was the plastic roller cage and armature plate wear. Even small hardly noticeable cracks in the roll cage could affect engagement. If you're having problems with it and have to tear into it replace the roller cage with an aluminum one. Polaris list an aluminum roller cage as an "option" on your model. Later models came standard with it. Item #10
