When I did bolt the jumper wire to the frame, there were some small sparks.

I did order the new coil/side cover.... Should I just put that in and see of it works?

Again what is the color of the other wire on the diff? Why I'm asking(I don't have your year model manual) on a couple models brown/white was the power wire to the diff. If the brown/white is the diff ground like most of the other models, you shouldn't have had a spark at the frame I'm thinking.

Grey should be the hot wire as most of them are and brown/white is ground as I thought. Keep us updated when you install the new coil.Plus remove the jumper when the new coil is installed and see if everything works as it should.

It may still be ok,could have just been the trash you found by the coil causing the problem,BUT you said you ordered a new coil plate? I'm getting confused a little..

I said coil/cover plate, cause I couldn't just order the coil, it was one assembly

Yes I knew it came as a plate assembly.Ok I'm up to date now. I thought you had just ordered it... My two cents you might as well use the new one because most places won't take back electrical parts.Save the old plate in case something was to happen later on. But that's just what I'd do.. If you wish to refit the old coil plate and see if it works ok,then save the new one just in case the old one doesn't hold up,then that's entirely up to you.

New one
Old one
so I ran into a problem.... I was trying to install the new cover/coil and it wouldn't seat correctly, so I layed them side by side and noticed ( whatever the black part in the middle is), the old one is flush with the aluminum housing and the new one is raised up. I wonder if this could be a defect from the factory?
