Ranger clunk

Check drive shaft u-joints and cvs at front and cvs at back for wear! Also prop shaft u-joints and shaft for excessive slack! 1600 hrs? Does it ever get a break? Noise usually in forward because wears the most. Good luck.

Just the guy I was hoping would answer this! Yeah this machine gets a workout 1600 hours and running like a champ! After some more looking and checking it might be transmission! What would be possibly wrong in the transmission?

What I repair most is shift forks, dog(engagement) gears, HI range almost always the problem! Use low range 7 mph and and under and especially under loads! Most people just throw in hi range and leave it there! Bad on clutches and trans! Clutches can run up to 160 degrees hotter in Hi at low speeds than in Low range! There will be some drive line lash or slack on even new machines, just more pronounced on high mileage machines. Just remember engine to clutches to transmission to drive shafts there will be some lash!

Old Polaris Tech,
Well it broke to where it would not go today. End up being the left axle! Had to replace the right on a few years ago, so I guess it was time for the left. Thanks for your help and I enjoy reading your posts.
