Ranger 6x6 stupid question about AWD
#2
My understanding of both the Ranger 6x6 and the Big Boss 800 6x6 is that they are in 4wd when you are not in AWD. That is to say that the 4 rear wheels are driving until you engage AWD and then all 6 wheels are driving the quad.

This is from the owner's manual:
When the switch is
off, the
off, the
RANGER is in two-wheel drive at all
times. When the switch is on, the RANGER is
in AWD, and the front wheels will
automatically engage anytime the rear wheels
lose traction.

Hmmmm. Okay, I stand corrected. If it is like the Sporstman X2 the two inside wheels will be turning. Like if you're going to the left the 2 rear left tires will be turning. Look and see if the rear differentials are made by Spicer. Mine has a Spicer rear axle that allows you to run in "Turf" mode. It unlocks the rear axle so only one tire is turning and the grass doesn't get as torn up. Not 100% sure though. My dealership doesn't have any 6x6s out so I can't pick their brains about it.

I noticed on the website that they said the following for the Ranger 6x6: On-Demand True 6WD / Rear 4WD / Lockable Rear Differential. For the Sportsman Big Boss 6x6 it says: On-Demand True 6WD/Rear 4WD. I would guess the Ranger has a similar Spicer axle setup as my Sporstman X2 has.

Not sue of the newest but the 6x6 I seen run,the awd only affected the front two wheel, making it a 4x4/6x6. No two wheel dive option whats so ever.

That being said, the traction in snow is like night and day. In 4x4 I'm sliding all over trying to get up my driveway. I could easily observe the 4 rear tires spinning. With the AWD on it goes up with no problem at all and I was not able to get the rears to spin.
It is an amazing difference.

Moose....What would you use one of these for? Just wondering.....camping, or true utility work? Seems like an industrial kind of purchase.
