Default Help please... oil filter

Has anyone taken the owner's manual advise and cleaned out the screen at the bottom of the oil resevoir? My oil cap was loose while riding at deepwater today (a real muddy mess) and I'm afraid some muck may have gotten in the oil tank. I drained and refilled but couldn't get the elbow fitting off the back of the tank. Since the tank is plastic and the elbow is metal I didn't want to crank on it too hard. Any ideas?

Same here. Although my tank is aluminum. I too can not get the fitting off and have not been able to clean the screen. Is it really that important

Default Help please... oil filter

I decided to finally perform that step after at least 2,000 miles on my 01 HO and it was clean as a whistle. I had never done it during other oil changes and thought that I would with that many miles, but there was nothing in there. The bolt that holds it in there was difficult to remove. I plan to only remove it every 5 or so oil changes since there was nothing there.

I've done it on my Scrambler on all my regular oil changes. Except for the first time, - there was some lint on the screen (??? how'd that get there?), it's always been clean.

After reviewing the manual in more detail I noticed that the fitting in the manual is different then what is on my machine. Do you guys have an elbow or a straight pipe with two nuts? I wonder if the elbow was designed to be removed.

Thanks in advance for your help!
