polaris4x4 250?

I'm looking to buy my first atv and need a little advice desperately!!! I test drove the polaris explorer 4x4 2 stroke 250. It seemed to be an overall, well rounded machine. Hunting, trails, light work, and snowplowing. My concern is, is a 250 enough go for plowing and/or also putting my 200lb brother on the back when scouting. I see their is a 400 but I just can't afford it. I have around $4,500 dollars(exactly what it will cost me for the 250 4x4). Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!Thanks

For the type of work your wanting out of your quad I would opt for a 4 stroke. A 2 stroke, chain driven bike isn't something I'd want for hunting or light work (although it probably can handle it). If you want to stay polaris, I think they make a 325 magnum that could be in this price range or maybe the 325 expedition if you don't mind shifting. Otherwise focus on some of the other manufacturers 300cc range quads.

I don't think you'll have any problem plowing or hauling an extra person. It's got low range. Use low for plowing and high for just about everything else. It has more power than you think, being it's only a 250. Try to talk the price down. I bought mine for 3995. My dealer advertises them at that price. It's the best buy 4x4 on the market.

YOu should be able to do all of what you want with the 250. My 250 has had 4 people on it before, and it could handle it. I've pulled 300lbs+ with it, and it handled it. and since you would have a low range, i'd say go for it, mind is a 85 (2x4) and still runnin great

I've got a 250 Xplorer4x4 and it's doing great. I've got about 350 miles on it and do alot of hill climbing. It has a whole lot better 4wd system than my AC 400 4x4. I think that you'll enjoy it and It doesn't smoke after it gets warmed up, if you're using the Gold injection oil.

My cousin has a 1993 polaris 250 4x4 non named atv
but I can see that it looks like an explorer. He and his wife ride together all the time. Some times they get stuck though and one of them has to get off so the other can get the atv out of a mud hole. I guess it depends on where you have to drive. In my view, for snow plowing, My guess is that you will find the 250 too light. You will probably be able to do it, it just wont be so easy, thats all. I agree that you may want to look
at the lower priced xpedition 325 cc 5-speed to handle your needs but keep the price down.

I ride with my girlfriend all the time she doesnt weight 200 lbs but I have tsaken one of my friends that does. My dealer told me my motor has more power than the Magnum 325 and weighs less than both the 4 and 2 wheel drive 325 magnums, When i ride with my friends 2000 325 Magnum It is fairly even with the nod going to me if we race. I have more top speed than him. It is a perfect quad for slow riding. most of the riding we do is 30 and under. tight wooded trails. I am not sure about plowing? The Xplorer 250 weighs the same as my honda 300 4x4 did and that didnt plow to well. well also we get allot of snow up here in Maine. sometimes full size trucks have trouble plowing after a storm. I really like my xplorer and would reccomend it to anyone.

The 250 motor should be fine. I have a 1993 250 2X4(which has fewer horses than the newer 250s) and I have never had any problems hauling two folks. Once you buy the Polaris you will notice how much bigger and more comfortable they are than other machines. They are better suited for hauling two than other smaller machines. The 250 Xplorer is an excellent buy when comparing it to other comperably priced ATVs. For $4500 you will have a hard time beating the machine with any other manyfacturer. The mods from Ritter cycle really make the 250 come alive! For @$250 you can add an easy 20% to your engine.
