I put a HPD clutch kit on my Dad's quad, and it made a big difference. They have a clutch kit designed for a stock motor, and it does a great job for about $150. Then you can put on a K&N filter and rejet the carb for about another $40-$50. This will make quite an improvement over the power you have right now. It was amazing how much better the bike "hooked up" with the new clutch kit. The guys at the dealership said that they did a comparison of a clutched stock 500 4x4 and a piped/clutched 500 4x4, and there was only about 2 quad lengths difference between the two. I pipe will help on the 500....but not that much.

Yes! I agree
I have A 03 Scrambler 500 4x4 and the salesman told me when it was new "The best thing you could do is put a heelclicker (clutch kit) and a pipe with jets because polaris didn't give you all the preformance and power it is capable of" I have been having enough fun on it stock for right now.

A clutch kit is a must. I have an HPD powermaxx exhaust, aggressive clutch kit, and K&N. After these mods, my machine will stand straight on its end without even pulling up on the bars. MAJOR improvement. HPD is the best company out there for Polaris performance, better than Hot Seat Performance. The pipe is $305 and the clutch kit is $155. A K&N is $35 through Rocky MT ATV and an outwears (highly suggest getting one) is $10. That is $505 compared to Hot Seats speed kit which is $550. Plus, the HPD pipe is Nickel plated compared to HSP's black painted one. With the clutch kit it will wheelie like mad. Go with HPD, you wont regret it. You can order it through RCR. Real cheap on shipping and great service. Hpd prvides a new main main jet with their pipe as well.

No, don't run the 700 belt, alot people thought that was the thing to do early on, but then they started having problems, (most not all people had problems) the reason is that the 700 belt is angled slightly different than the 500 belt and can cause clutch problems in the long run. The best thing to do with HPD is call them, tell them what you are after and they will recommend the clutch kit for your needs. They are good friendly helpful people to talk with.
