I asked a dealer last year about the Polaris belts and water. He told me that the 03 600 and 700 had a trans cover made from a new material. He said one of the problems had been that when it got hot and a rider accidently put his foot on it, then it would warp and lose the watertight seal. He also said there where a couple of other minor changes made to those models also. He said that for 03 the 600 and 700 were the only ones to get those changes. He also said they had gotten all the older bugs out of the 600 and in his opinion it was the best on the market.
Does anybody have any facts about this first statement and an opinion on the second.
I have heard that the 600 is a much easier to steer unit than the 500 or 700. Since the 600 has a turn radius of 76" and the 500 has a turn radius of 82", I would like to know if this is a discernible difference in the woods.
From anybodys personal experience. What are the biggest differences when riding the SP 500 and the SP 600? Vibration? Felt Power?
I have not read of any changes in the drivetrain for 04 for the 500's. I am not talking about going from hub lock to diff lock. I am talking about the sealing qualitys of the trans.
I am giving my old King Quad to my son and buying a Polaris. I am just not sure what size to buy. Why would it be worth the extra money to go bigger than a 500?
My uses are hunting both in the south and in the western mountains, plus working around the farm. A little mowing maybe and basic utilitarian work. Of most importance to me however is going anywhere I want to go offroad, and getting back again.

Thanks 2manytoys. The Polaris website bears out what you said. At that time I did not physically look at a 500 as I was only interested in the 600.
I can't believe the lack of response to this question. Not even a Polaris bashing from a Honda guy.
