Default engine racing and running hot

Somebody please help...... I had my gas tank off the 00' trailboss325 to drain and clean it. Now when I start it the engine races and after about a minute the pipe was glowing red. I took the tank back off thinking maybe when I put it on I pinched the throttle cable but thats not the case. Also had to change the plug capwas cracked. Turns out that was part of the problem with the stalling in water I had.. help me out please i am supposed to ride tomarrow thanks in advance

It sounds like a lean mixture. One possibility is a cracked or miss-installed boot between the carb and the engine allowing air to leak in. The first thing to do is check the spark plug, if it's white it's lean, very lean. It should be a rusty brown colour.

Well its not running lean as there is alot of carbon build up on the plug its a new plug only ran for a minute or 2 and is black.. The boot between the carb and motor seem to be fine no cracks or anything like that . Riding today is shot but have a chance for tomarrow (Sunday) so please help
