The only pipes that are really good for polaris is hpd, aaen, rcr and hotseat. You can also get some heat tape and line the back of the heatshield with it. My hpd pipe gets hot but I can still rest my legg on the shield.FMF is a good brand pipe but not really for polaris.

on my modified 400 xplorer is had to install automotive heat shielding because i started melting my plastic after i ported the cylinder in installed a 38mm tmx carb. I pop riveted "header" heat shielding to the plastic by my leg and between the carb and pipe. helped alot.

Yeah, the trail pipes increase the expansion chamber right in the worst spot, where your leg is. But that is the only way they can do it. Some header wrap on the pipe along with the heat shield will work great. You can also use some of the chrome looking heat tape too. But that is your only choices with out changing pipes.Bubba

thanks for the help guys..the expansion chamber on the hpd race pipe is all in the front then it comes through next to your leg as a small pipe right?

I just took off the plastoc shield and now I wear ridding pants. Before when the pipe got real hot it would make my fuel line vaper lock if i sat still for more than a min.

If your pipe is getting really hot, it may be a sign that you are running too lean. It will naturally get hot, but make sure the jetting isn't the cause. If you want to keep the pipe, you can get jet hot coating that will cool it down alot and isn't very expensive.
