Default Too Loud?

My 1990, 250 Trailblazer (2x4, 2 cycle) is too loud. I checked the seating of the pipe into the exhaust port and it appears tight and the springs holding the pipe to the port are strong.
The muffle is working OK (or seems to be) but all in all, I'd like to quiet it down a bit.

Is there anyway (short of selling it) to quiet it down? New style muffler, second muffle (like the 4 cycles), etc.?

Any suggestions?

There is an inexpensive kit from HPD that quiets things down a bit. On the front of the race pipe, I think it dropped it 9 DB or so, if my memory serves me right. Also installed part of them around the silencer to drop things another 2-3 DB. HPD-inc.com

Where does one find the HPD Kits advertized? I would give it a try and see if it helps.

My grammar is poor and my knowledge of quads is even worse, but....if you have a removeable silencer you might be able to re-wrap it in silencer cloth. I remember when I bought my after market pipe they said in time I would have to re-wrap it - when it gets loud. If the silencer can't be removed, then maybe your muffler needs to be replaced. I'm sure the forum boys/girls will correct me if I'm wrong.

If I am correct the pipe that you have on yout 90 250 is a one piece. This means that you can not replace the silencer without replacing the pipe. There are aftermarket pipes that you can put on your own silencer depending on the noise level that you want. I have an HPD pipe with the stock 400 silencer and it sounds really good but it is heavy and hurts performance a little. But when I go riding for the weekend and do alot of climbing I put on a DG silencer. It is more open and louder but better performance and not to mention it looks way better.. Sounds like you need a complete replacement. The silencer packing in the stock silencer is probably burnt up. I would not even think of getting a new stock setup because it will run you about $400. The aftermarket performance pipe and silencer will run you around $300 with some added HP.

Yep, I have to agree with 2manytoys. Do check out HPD though.
