Default TO RICH OR TO LEAN!!

When it is hot out and I ride for a bit, when I go WOT I lose power. I then open the choke but nothing happens. Is it to rich or to lean? I cant remember.

when u turn the choke on and nothing happens do you mean that u dont lose the power anymore or it still loses the power the same. i'd say if when you tun it on it doesn't affect it running running rich. if it does effect it i would think your running lean. not positive though try asking modquad he would know.

Kurt, if you were running good in the cooler months and havent changed anything, start by dropping a main jet size. Depending on altitude and temp, you might have to go 2-4 sizes smaller. When it gets hot there is less air in the same given space and you have to adjust the fuel for it. Bubba

I think you are too rich. If it runs worse when it gets warm, then you are too rich. Your choke may not be adjusted exactly because if it is then it will get worse when you flip the choke on (if it is rich) better if it is lean. But, that may not apply if your jetting is off too much.

Before you start changing jets check the colour of your spark plug, it won't lie. Wait for a hot day and start with a clean spark plug then do a WOT run. Try to keep it there for a 1/4 mile or more. When your run is done stop ASAP shut of the engine and remove the spark plug. If the colour is rusty brown that's perfect, if it's white or grey it's too lean and black is too rich.
