Default Polaris Pull Start

2002 scrambler 400/ 2 stroke 4x4. I was having battery problems this weekend so I found my self using my pull starter quite a few times. When I give the starter rope a pull I get drenched with what seems to be an oil of some kind, the spray comes off of the rope as it comes out of the pull starter housing. I thought the pull ropes were supposed to be dry, is this oil a common thing, if not how do I get rid of it. The quad was running great otherwise, any ideas.

You need to maintain your machine better....that's what it's telling you. Read your owners manual to find the moisture drains on the motor and starter. Also, a smear of grease will help the pull-start handle seal to the housing...making sure it's always properly pushed back on when not in use.

Every time you get in some deep water you need to drain the water from the starter. There is a drain for this purpose. This may be why you are having trouble with the starter also. It can rust and corrode if not drained.

Do you guys know where the drain pluf is for the starter on the 500 scrambler? It shows it for the 400 in the manual but not the 500.
