HPD air box mod???
#1
Is it really worth it? What all does it come with? Is it set up to work with the Powermaxx exhaust? They say that cutting, drilling, and riviting is required. How much are they talking about?

I only heard good things about it. I heard the drilling is minor. All you have to do is VERY CAREFULLY drill out a piece covering a screw in the carb...or so I've been told. I would just call HPd and ask them if you can have them send you one that has the propper jetting for what you have.
I always wanted to see what one looked like installed.

The HPD airscoop is an easy installation, you just cut the lid with aviation snips then silicone the lid and rivet the airscoop. It certainly lets in more air which in turn makes the aftermarket exhaust work better due to more air exchange ( the more air intake the more power). The needle jet is easy to change and I did not have to drill out the cover to access the airscrew maybe because mine is an '02. But call HPD they will advise you. I think it was definitely worth it and would do it again!

So the new lid still utilizes the old one? It just get rivited to the old one? I may try it because I am having problems with my machine stalling and someone suggested that it sounds like a bad needle and seat.

Do you think that this would cure my stalling problem. I have the idel adjustment screw on the carb adjusted almost all the way in, but it always seems to idle too low after a while and now has started stalling, unless you give it a little gas. Someone mentioned that it may be a bad needle?

Yes, the airscoop gets riveted right onto the existing filter box lid. The kit comes with all the instructions on installing the needle jet and on setting the airscrew. I installed it as per instructions and the set-up works great, I'm just going to add the dial-a-jet kit to better atomomize the fuel delivery.
