In all fairness to Hot Seat, Bomb, a general rule of thumb is to match your pipe and your clutch kits from the same shop. Like CED suggested, you need to know where each pipe makes power. Tuning these PVT's requires an accurate tachometer. Also Aaen sells a great clutch tuning handbook....I've worn mine out. Hope this helps.

Default Question for Bubba?

when I ordered the clutch kit from them they did NOT have a pipe for my quad, even though their web site said they did, I waited a year and they still did not have it devoloped yet, I should have stated more clearly what I had for clutching, I am using the secondary spring out of the hotjunk clutch kit and that is it , this is from recomendations from the guy that ported the cylinder, and I truly belive he knows what he is talking about with the polaris PVT, I do have a set of 58 gram weights that I had in it at one time but it didn't seem to make a difference so I went back to the stock weights, to give hotseat a little credit the tech's on the phone were very freindly just not effective.

Default Question for Bubba?

the dynoport pipe runs at the stock RPM so that's why I'm at the stock primary settings.

You should PM Bubba. He doesn't seem to be around here as much as he use to, since he sold the "bubba bike". I don't think he likes us anymore

Default Question for Bubba?

Hey now, come on! That just happened to be about the same time business picked up. As the Sears service manager in the southern region, the lawn and garden business keeps me covered up this time of year. I dont have the day time to get to play on the puter. I get to twittle my thumbs in the winter time though. To keep it straight I still have 2 polaris quads as well. It is true that the dynoport pipe runs the same as the stocker at @5750 rpms. Shannon, you might have to get a cheap tach and hook it up long enough to do some testing. If it engages at a decent rpm, shifts out well, and holds within 150rpms of stock, then your problem would have to be somewhere else. I cant remember if you had the stock head shaved or if you are running an aftermarket head. Taking .020 off the stocker will help bottom end and power, but the Dynoport pipe makes huge torque right off the bottom. Couple that with the 39pwk, and throttle response should be great. The belt could be an issue for sure. Keeping deflection proper and a good belt makes a big difference. As CED told you, that spring should be in either 2-2 or 1-1 setting. The 2-2 will hold a little more secondary pressure and backshift better, but the 1-1 will let it shift just a little quicker. In my opinion, Hotseat does their clutch kits backwards from everyone else. They use lighter weights, different angled helixes, and different springs. I know a guy in MO,he has the first trail port jug I ever done. It is on an Explorer. He runs the blue/green stock spring with 58g weights and the violet secondary spring. he also has the Dynoport pipe. He loves it that way. It engages right above idle and goes well. I ran the 58g weights when I had the dynoport pipe as well. Made a huge difference. I am guessing you need a stock or 40-36 secondary helix (check your buttons in the clutch) with a good spring starting in 2-2 position. I would go with either the white primary spring with 58g weights, or you might try the plain OEM (#7041021) spring with the stock weights. The engagement is a little more but the full shift numbers are a little less and will load the motor some which is what you want. Also above everything else remember that we are in summer time right now and the air is thin. Make sure your not too rich on the pilot jet or main jet and/or needle postion. That will rob your crispness real quick. Hope this helps,Bubba

Default Question for Bubba?

Bubba do you have any idea what I should be running for a pilot jet, I have a ETG and it tops out at 1250 so I think the main is OK, but from 3/4 to full throttle it does not increase the speed at all, it just seems to be a waste of fuel, I can't figure that one out, and the exhaust temp stays at 1250.

Default Question for Bubba?

That is a tough question. maybe Modquad can chime in and give an answer on the jetting. It's been awhile and I cant remember where HPD sets their jetting up on the 39pwk. The HPD trail pipe needs to run fat in the middle range, so that jetting may not be good enough to start with. I want to say they had a 35 pilot in it, but I cant remember for sure. You can call HPD between 3-5 central time and big Mike will tell you what jetting the trail mod should take. Just tell him you are running his pipe if he asks. After thinking about it, a 39 might be a little big for a trail ported motor running the stock rpms. You know anyone with a 35 or 36pwk you could try?
