About a week ago, I put 26x9x12 bi-claws on the front of my sp500, and 26x12x12 tri-claws on the rear. I got my bike hung on a log with only 1 front wheel touching very good. Put it in reverse, and the touching wheel turned the steering full-lock and guess what? The cv joint just popped one good time. I replaced it, but I'm wondering, do I need to put back on my stock tires, or is this just a freak thing that happened? How easy is it to ruin a cv joint. The boot was in excellent condition, and the bike had about 350 miles on it. No lift kit or anything. Thanks for your replies, except sledder.

Walexa,

In the situation you describe the stock tires may have done the same thing. The full weight of the hung machine and only one corner of the drive train with all that power applied to it, I'm not surprised something broke.

The only way I see that the different tires played a role was in providing more traction to the ground. Sometime a lesser tire is better in that it will slip rather than break something in the drive train.

Avoid full lock, or close to it, when at all possible. It's more common in reverse since it will turn easier. Some people have put it steering limiters, might be a good idea.
