700s do not knock, most are actually quiet to the point you can hear the heat shields on the exhause sort of rattle when you rev em . Your car has hydraulic lifters does it knock? Actually a hydraulic lifter will make a clicking noise if it is leaking off. I would find a dealer that wants to fix my four wheeler before it throws a rod or spins a crank bearing - usual causes of a knock in the motor. However I would have my clutches checked to see if the knock is coming from there..

When I first bought mine, I could hear a little engine noise like coming from the valve train, I don't know if you would call it a Knock. I went back to the dealer and listened to another one and it sounded the same way. It might be normal noise unless it is a loud knock. Mine actually gets quieter when you rev it up, but is more noisy at idle. I think it is probably normal engine noise, but if you are in doubt get it checked out or do like I did and listen to another one. Mine still sounds about the same as when I bought it, 500+miles later.

I listened to a new 2004 700 today and it sounds exactly like my 03 700. There is some engine noise that does sort of sound like a slight knock especially at idle but it quiets down when you rev it up a little. I don't think it is anything to worry about. Mine has made this noise since it was new and has not changed any in 500 miles.

The noise you are hearing is gear noise. The gears that run the cam and countershaft have a slight clatter until the engine is reved up.
You can somtimes hear the same gear clatter on many automobile engines.
I would'nt worry about it. They all make the same noise and it doesn't seem to be a problem.
