Thinking of purchaseing 2002 SP700
#1
I am looking at purchaseing a used 2002 SP700 with 250 miles on it and a winch for $5800.00. Does this seem to be a good buy. I've looked at new but if the price is right I'll buy used. Are there any problems that I should be awear of when looking at the 2002 SP700.

sorry,,, they`re not junk,, yes they have or had leaking water pump, probably been fixed on the bike your looking at. but check to make sure,
$ 5,900.00 seems a little high for an 02, bought mine new in 02 for $ 6,900, for about a thousand more you`ve got a new one, not one 2 years old, but you gotta do what you gotta do, hope this helped you .

The rod bearing thing could turn out to be an issue, but it still seems to be very isolated occurrences. I talked to my dealer, they said out of more than 200 700s sold only 2 have had lower end engine problems and both of them had the crankcase full of mud and water.

Just bought (August2, 2003) an o3 SP700 for $6300 OTD all included and threw in a brand new set of Polaris aluminum ramps!! $5800 for a used 02, therefore, seems high to me.

go into the polaris forum and do a search on problems for the 2002 sp700... My buddy has a 2002 sp700. TONS of problems, the belts break ALL the time (3 in one month) I have heard of quite a few tranny problems along with many others. Also, the sp600 and the 700 do NOT have a pull start or kick start...so if your electric start fails, your not going anywhere. But if you must buy that quad. does sounds like a good deal, but the money you save now will most likely be spent on fixing problems with the quad...

Don'y buy a 2002!! I sued Polaris and after a year of litigation, I finally won and got all my money back. Anything and everything that could go wrong went wrong, including a wire fire that burned my entire headlight POD. I could write a list for an hour but won't waste my time. I think polaris got most of the bugs worked out now. Unfortunately, there testing of the new model 2002 sp700 was selling it to customers and dealing with problems as they happened. 2 major design flaws, the water pump leaking fluid and the winch assembly (which is another story)...I would not buy anything earlier than a 2004 in that model......Good Luck

Just because there have been some 02 models with problems doesn't mean all 02s are bad. There are many people on these forums with 02 700s with no problems other than the water pump thing which is covered by Polaris. I have had no problems with my 03 700 after 500+ miles. I don't think it is fair to lump all of the 02 models into the junk category.
