Default Changing Oil in a 500 ho

Do you have to install a new seal around the drain plug each time you change your oil? The manual says to replace the washer seal and to disconnect the lower oil delivery hose to clean it and the screen. Then, it says to Loctite the fitting back. Is this necessary? Thanks for the info. They charged me $23 dollars for 2 quarts of oil and the filter at my local dealers. Has anyone tried any other kind of oil?

I use Castrol syntec 5w50 oil because it is easy to get and the last oil change (my first) I did not clean the screen because I figured the spin on filter kept the screen clean. As for the brass or copper washer on the oil resivoir I don't change that till it leaks same as the cars I've owned in the last 25 years.

Mobil 1 is an excellent alternative to the polaris oil and Wix and NAPA have oil filters (part #s 5138/1358) that are much cheaper. Be sure to use a sythetic oil.
