Hi all,
I have noticed several posts (I have even put one there myself) regarding new tires for our quads. There are so many diffrent brands and styles out there most people (including myself) have difficulty deciding on what to buy.
Can people with non OEM tires state the following information about your tires. It would be of great benefit to us all.
Quad:
Tire Name:
Type of Riding by %: eg. mud 25% hard packed 50% and sand 25%
If larger size any problems/modifications:
Overall Impression:
Would you buy this tire again:

These are on a Yamaha Blaster
Quad: Yamaha Blaster
Tire Name: Maxxis Sur-Trak
Type of Riding by %: 25% Mud 75% hard packed Trails, 0% Sand
If larger size any problems/modifications: 22x11x8(fit perfect! even though it is 1 inch taller)
Overall Impression: I love these Tires, i get more than enough hook up for the hill climbs i do, and the mud that i am in i get plenty of traction. Only problem i have is they are a little too aggresive sliding around corners. But i don't care so it doesn't bother me.
Would you buy this tire again: Yes, I would buy this tire again, great bargain! only $45 a tire. Very stiff Tread!

year 2000 polaris xpedition 425 cc 5-speed.
tire: mud bugs by maxxis
front: 26x10x12
back : 26x12x12
rims: are larger 12x7 and they are itp magnum billet alluminum rims.
mud 40%, hardpack logging trails, pipe and power lines 60%. sand none.
Yes I would buy these tires again. The main drawback was the price, for the 4 tires, the 4 alluminum rims and shipping was 857 dollars.
They do clean very well and grip very well. I now can drive full speed with these tires. The set up is light and the tires perform very well. I bought these from high lifter.

Shopping for tires takes time due to all the choices. I just went through the task of buying new tires and decided on the Bearclaw. I am very happy with the tire and I ride in similar terrain to what you decribe. Another choice is the Blackwater by ITP. THe ITP and the Bearclaw were my two favorites. The best place I found to buy the tires was Chaparral Racing in Califoria. They have an add to order over the phone in Dirt Wheels (back page). Two Bearclaws delivered to the door cost $116.
The traction difference between the new tires and the OEM (stock) tires is amazing!

99 Polaris Sport:
ITP Holeshot XTC's all around on ITP T-9 rims
2000 Kodiak:
Kenda Bearclaws on stock rims.
Here in Ohio, you can go weeks without rain, then rain for a week. From extremely hard and dusty to extremely muddy. I found both these tires to be an all around great tire. I would easily purchase and recomend them again.

I am using a set of Vampires on my 99 Explorer 400 4x4 (25/9.5/12, 25/13/10). They are excellent!!The best mud tire available. I ride in almost every terrain from mud/muskeg to the rocks and hills, my Vampires work everywhere.

98 Scrambler 500
Kenda Bearclaws
Front 23x8x11 on .190 Douglas
Rear 22x12x10 on .190 Douglas
50% clay mud 25% loose dirt 25% hardpack
Definetly would recommend! $408 to my door from Chapparal in CA to NY.
Excellent traction all around and much better handling do to thicker side walls. I think the 1 inch increase in wheel diameter in the front helps too.
