swingarm question
#1
I need to replace the bushings in my swingarm. I have an 02 400X Scrambler. How much of a dissassembly is involved in replacing these bushings? Will I need to remove entire belt housing and clutch assy.? Trying to get an idea of how long this will take me.

You'll need to remove the clutches, cause the LH side bolt is behind the clutch cover. Make sure the threads are super clean. The manual recommends using Loctites primer. If you don't want to spring for that, at least thoroughly clean the threads with a non-residual cleaner...like brakecleaner. Make sure to use red loctite when putting it all back together. A shop manual walks you through the entire process. You'll need a 1 3/4" socket, most Farm and Fleet type stores sell a discounted line of larger sockets. The torque is 150 ft/lbs. DO NOT JUST USE BLUE LOCTITE!!!!!!

i just took mine all apart, and i must say it was really easy..you dont need to take the primary clutch off, just the secondary.once that is off you need to take the 3 bolts behind the clutch off ,and then you can bend the clutch cover enough to get the bolt out..you will need to take your chain off,nd i also took of my brake caliper so i could take the swingarm and axle out from underneath the quad, making it easy to work on..it only took me about 15-20 minutes to get the whole assembly out,now im waiting for my parts,so i dont know how long it will take to put back in..im going to guess and say i could do the whole job,in and out,in under a hour..

Thanks for the input. I am planning on starting on this tomorrow or Wed. I was hoping I wouldn't have to take the whole clutch apart.

Its not that much more to pull the primary clutch off and the back cover.Gives you a good chance to clean parts that dont get cleaned often.
